I have always enjoyed making creations often with a textural quality. My textile work has included everything from wooltops and yarns to patchwork and thread. This has led me to experiment with a large number of crafts including, needlefelting, (2D pictures and 3D animals), wet felting, patchwork, crocheting, knitting and macrame to name but a few! Have had exhibitions of my work which included needlefelted scenes of nature and felted bags at Snape Maltings, and RHS. Currently, I have 3 large tapestries on display as part of the exhibition of the history depicting 'The Dig ' in Sutton Hoo at 'The Longshed' in Woodbridge.
Crocheting is a versatile and creative fiber art that involves using a hooked needle to interlock loops of yarn. It allows for the creation of a wide variety of items, from clothing and accessories to home décor. The intricate stitches and patterns make it a relaxing, yet skillful, craft.
Felted pictures are a unique art form where wool fibers are layered and pressed together, often using a felting needle, to create textured, colorful images. The technique allows for soft, almost painterly effects, blending shades of wool to craft detailed landscapes, portraits, or abstract designs.
Macramé is the art of knotting cords in intricate patterns to create decorative and functional items. Using various knotting techniques, artists craft wall hangings, plant hangers, jewelry, and more. This tactile, versatile craft emphasizes texture and design, with endless possibilities for creative expression using just simple materials.
3D needle felting is a captivating art form that involves sculpting wool fibers into three-dimensional shapes using a barbed needle. This technique allows artists to create intricate figures, animals, and objects by repeatedly stabbing wool, causing the fibers to mat together. The result is soft, textured sculptures with vibrant colors.
2D needle felting is a technique where barbed needles are used to intertwine wool fibers, creating flat, vibrant designs. This method allows artists to produce detailed images, patterns, and textures on fabric or felt bases. It’s ideal for crafting unique wall art, embellishments, and wearable pieces, showcasing creativity and skill.
Crafting patchwork involves sewing together pieces of fabric to create a larger design, often showcasing different colors and patterns. This traditional art form is used in quilts, clothing, and home décor. Patchwork allows for creativity and personalization, transforming leftover fabrics into functional and decorative items that celebrate individuality and craftsmanship.
Craft weaving is an ancient art that intertwines threads or fibers to create textiles, baskets, and art pieces. It combines creativity and skill, using various techniques like loom weaving, macramé, or basketry. Weaving not only produces functional items but also showcases intricate patterns, colors, and textures, celebrating cultural traditions and craftsmanship.
Wet felting is a textile art technique that involves matting and compressing wool fibres using water, soap, and friction. The process transforms loose wool into a dense, cohesive fabric. Artists can create vibrant patterns and textures, resulting in unique items like bags, hats, and wall hangings, celebrating the beauty of handmade crafts.
Tapestry crafting involves weaving intricate designs using colorful threads on a loom. Each piece tells a story, blending patterns, textures, and rich hues. Traditionally used for wall hangings or decorative art, tapestry crafting requires skill and patience, resulting in stunning, handmade works that bring warmth and character to any space.
